Nemesis Coffee
Visual Identity
Bruce Mau Design
2016
Design proposal for Nemesis, a coffee shop at the hearth of Vancouver’s West Hastings Street. The challenge was to create a visual identity under the owner’s philosophy of “coffee creating culture”, the idea of the brand being a window for the expression of the marginalized cultural currents. Building on the chosen name of Nemesis and the predefined icon of an inverted heart, a custom typeface was designed to unify the two elements under a cohesive whole. Its brut and unrefined style expresses the strength and the pride of the subcultures.
